I will be presenting a paper at the Association for Business Communication’s 77th International Conference in Hawaii. The paper, entitled “Conducting Sustainable Human Subjects Research in Business and Technical Communication Research”, will discuss the process of conducting sustainable research and the variety of open-source technology available to researchers.
See the conference website here.
A study entitled “The Efficacy of Text Messaging in Collaborative Writing Projects: An Experimental Study” has been funded by the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The $5000 award will be used to design and run the study over the summer of 2012. Results to come…
If you own a cell phone, chances are you text. Recent research has shown that cell phone users are using their phones to text, even more than to make actual phone calls. This is no longer true for only teens, it’s true for adult users as well (see and download the Pew Research Center article here). However, research has also shown that adults haven’t quite adopted text messaging for work.
I recently presented at the Association for Business Communication conference in Montreal. I gave a talk that outlined a proposal for research investigating text messaging in workplace contexts.
I am in the progress of collecting data from a pilot classroom experiment. I am also awaiting a funding decision that would allow me to collect data from various workplaces. Results coming soon.
